Gina Pellettiere Obituary, Death Cause – Two people, Gina Pellettiere, age 43, and Beatrice Ferrari, age 77, were killed when a bus carrying students from Farmingdale High School to band camp went off the side of a New York roadway and fell fifty feet. Thursday was the day when the Long Island school’s marching band, color guard, and dancers embarked on their annual journey to Greeley, Pennsylvania. Six buses were used to transport the students. A bus carrying 44 people was involved in an accident on Interstate 84 in Wawayanda, New York, just 30 minutes before it was supposed to arrive at its destination.
The charter bus, which was full of students, overturned and came to rest on its side after rolling down an embankment that was fifty feet tall. According to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, the incident that resulted in the injuries of forty persons may have been caused by a problem with a front tire. The terrifying image from the aircraft revealed tire tracks leading off the roadway, and five pupils were found to have suffered significant injuries and were brought to the hospital.
One of the victims was Pellettiere, who was widely respected for his work as the band director at Farmingdale High. On the website for the Nassau-Suffolk Performing Arts, it is stated that she was instrumental in guiding the Farmingdale Wind Ensemble to more than a dozen gold ratings over the course of thirteen years. This is just one of the numerous honors that she has received.
