An estimated 5 acres of brush burned in Kapalua amid strong winds on Thursday morning, fire officials said.
The fire broke out around 11:28 a.m. in the brush area north of Keoawa Place, which is mauka of Honolua Bay.
Crews arrived on the scene to find a working brush fire that was rapidly spreading due to strong winds. Personnel began fighting the fire and worked on containment.
Strong trade winds were blowing 10 to 20 mph, fire officials said.
The fire was declared 100 percent contained at approximately 12:45 p.m., with crews continuing mop-up operations.
Engine 11 from Napili; Engine 3, Ladder 3 and Tanker 3 from Lahaina; an emergency callback crew; the department’s Air One and Air Two helicopters; and a battalion chief all responded to the blaze.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
